RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

RCIA, or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, are religious classes designed for adults who want to be Catholic.

Thousands of people convert to Catholicism each year, and they all usually go through the same procedure.

Most Catholic parishes have classes to educate non-Catholics on the fundamentals of Catholicism to prepare people to convert. The RCIA classes are usually held every week, and the RCIA process includes several steps.

The process provides the opportunity to ask questions to get an idea about Catholicism and learn about scriptures and Jesus Christ.

This is followed by participants accepting Jesus Christ as their savior, and they begin going to Mass on Sunday as they further their commitment to the faith.

During Lent, the six-week preparation time for Easter, participants are then accepted as candidates for the Sacraments by the Bishop (including the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation).

Most RCIA programs last about one year, though this can vary depending on your particular parish.
